6 of our stylist's favourite smart trousers

A pair of trousers will put in some serious work when it comes to your wardrobe. Not only are they often way comfier than a jean, they’re smarter too and effortlessly manage to make that oversized hoodie you’ve worn non-stop for five days look infinitely chic.

What’s more exciting, is that there’s just so many styles to choose from so you’re always bound to find a pair that is just right for you. We tapped stylist Leanne Long to round up her favourites of the moment – you won’t miss your joggers (promise).

The neutral

Every wardrobe reaps the benefits of a nice and neutral trouser. They’re, of course, endlessly versatile due to the pair-with-anything colour, but if you also opt for a wide-leg silhouette, you’ll find they work just as well for down days at home as they do in the office. Right now, our stylists are wearing theirs with a collegiate sweater and trainers or mix and matching their neutrals elsewhere for a head-to-toe tonal look.

The checked

Checks will forever reign supreme in the world of prints, and choosing a cropped iteration is a great way to introduce a little retro into your trouser collection. Plus, that flash of ankle you’ll get works wonders in managing to make your legs appear longer and leaner, if that’s what you’re after. Wear with a colourful knit and loafer for a preppy take, or to keep things laid-back, throw on your favourite graphic tee and a pair of trainers.

The pinstripe

Once the uniform of gangsters and ‘80s office workers, the pinstripe always makes its way back around. To keep things feeling modern when styling yours, consider shying away from traditional workwear staples like shirting and instead opt for box-fresh trainers, a white tee, and a varsity jacket.

The classic black

Pairing perfectly with all your tops and knitwear, a pair of black trousers are always a favourite. But to mix things up from classic cigarette styles, try a kick-flare for size. Not only will the hem add a chic touch to your outfit, but the subtle flute mimics the shape of curves, going great lengths to balance out fuller hips and stronger thighs.

The bright

Colourful trousers are an instant mood boost and surprisingly easy to style. Think about it; since the trousers make such a statement on their own, there’s not much you need to do elsewhere. Try a neutral knit during the day time, or heels and jewellery for a night out.

The animal print

We see animal print as a neutral here at Thread, so you can expect to see us in this pair of leopard trousers at all sorts of occasions. Our favourite way to style? With an oversized blazer, hoodie, and chunky flat boots. Failing that, a cute knit and backless loafers always works too.
