Our stylists’ favourite new arrivals

The stylists at Thread see a lot of clothes – it’s an occupational hazard – so when they see something they really like, we take notice. This week, they’ve been feeling stuff designed to beat weird weather without dropping style points. They’re where form meets function.

“Worker jackets are really popular at the moment and I love this one,” says Isabelle Harvey, “The slightly burnt orange colour is great – it feels different from all the green and navy options that are around – and would look really good with lighter-wash denim.”

Native Youth print shirt

“Just looking at this shirt feels like summer to me,” says Alice Watt. “It’s vivid and colourful, but not so garish you’d feel uncomfortable wearing it. I’d keep everything else simple so the shirt is really the statement.”

Ralph Lauren linen trousers

“I love linen on formal trousers,” says Luke McDonald. “It immediately relaxes the formality, so they work really nicely with just a t-shirt tucked in or a simple cotton knit. They’ll give your outfit a laid-back Riviera feel.”

Photographed: Veja V10 Leather Trainers ($150)

“A great minimal leather trainer, but with a slightly sportier feel,” says Millie Rich. “These Vejas are the type of shoe that you can wear with everything from shorts to suit trousers, and know you’ll always look good.”

Photographed: Levi's Cubano Shirt ($45)

“A Cuban collar is one of the styles of the moment,” says Alexander McCalla. “You'll see all your mates in them this summer, so get ahead of the game with this one from Levi’s. It mixes pattern and colour but in a considered way.”

Selected Homme organic cotton stripe tee

“It’s great to see more and more organic fibres as brands become more environmentally conscious,” says Brooke Philips. “This pattern can work alone but, because it’s a classic stripe, it looks great layered up and won’t pull focus from the rest of your outfit.”

Photographed: Tretorn Wings Rain Jacket ($105)

“A rain jacket will serve you well year-round, so this is a great trans-seasonal piece,” says Toby Standing. “It’s lightweight, making it a great outer layer as the weather gets warmer, but is also really practical when every day brings the risk of a downpour.”

Photographed: Arlen Cotton Twill Zip Up Jacket ($143)

“You don’t have to give up your jackets when it gets hotter,” says Freddie Kemp, “You can – and should – still layer with versatile lightweight jackets. It will keep your style interesting.”
