Get your own personal stylist to help you find clothes you love. All online, completely free
We’ve talked a lot about the benefits of having a curated wardrobe filled with essentials that you can wear season after season, in many different ways. But sometimes, a video is worth several thousand words.
So here, we’ve challenged our stylists to create six looks from only nine items. The result? A versatile collection of clothes that somehow manage not to feel samey.
The key is sticking to a tried-and-tested colour palette. Not only will this mean that everything in your wardrobe suits you, but you could get dressed in the dark and still look good. Also, steer clear of anything too trend-led as these can date quickly.
“After a lifetime of trying out trends and different styles, I often find that the kind of things you love most and use most are quite ordinary,” says Thread stylist Luke McDonald. “Putting together a capsule wardrobe is making a system out of this.
“Almost all of us are limited both in our financial resources and storage space, so having a collection of versatile items is the key to dressing well within these constraints,” says Luke. “Once you have the basics it’s so much easier to incorporate more unconventional colours or styles into your wardrobe. It’s a solid foundation to build on.”
Speak to your stylist who will be able to advise you on what gaps there are in your wardrobe and which pieces are worth splashing out on. Then, once you’ve got your capsule wardrobe essentials, don’t forget to share them with us on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook for a chance to be featured.
