Jeans and trousers

What exactly are: Cargo pants?

What exactly are: Cargo pants?

In a nutshell

Military-inspired trousers that look best with other classic, masculine clothes.

Backstory

First worn by the British Armed Forces in 1938 – and the US Army during World War II – cargo pants were designed with large pockets to fit bandages, maps, rations, ammunition and other battlefield essentials.

How to wear them well

"Cargo pants are best worn with other functional, utilitarian pieces," says Thread stylist Millie Rich. "Think cable-knit jumpers, desert boots, plain t-shirts, workboots and utility jackets."
