Finance Manager

We are looking for a Finance Manager to maintain and execute the operational aspects of Finance at Thread. Joining a team of three, you will be reporting into Mike, our Head of Finance, and you will lead much of the operational work in the Finance team ensuring that our accounting data is reliable and accurate.

As Finance Manager, you will have solid technical finance skills, alongside practical experience in a commercial environment, with a keen interest to learn and develop in this area towards becoming a Financial Controller. You will have strong attention to detail, be thorough and dependable, and able to deliver consistently in a fast paced start-up environment. The Finance Manager will be proactive in their role, communicating updates on progress/issues, and continually looking for ways to improve the finance function and your remit. 

Responsibilities include:

Transactional Finance

  • Work with the Finance Business Partner and Head of Finance in overseeing and managing all aspects of accounts payable, payroll, accounts receivable and other aspects of operational finance.

Month End

  • Ownership of the month-end timetable and processes.
  • Responsibility for the balance sheet including the accounting for and reconciliation of stock, fixed assets, cash, prepayments and intercompany loans.
  • Business Partnering with all Thread teams on monthly costs and reporting
  • Working to continually improve and automate the month end process to allow for faster and better quality reporting.

Controls and Compliance

  • Taking active responsibility in ensuring that the Financials are accurate, reliable, and compliant. Working closely with the Head of Finance to embed initiatives to help to continue to support this.


  • Supporting the Head of Finance in other Ad Hoc initiatives through the financial year to allow for business change and progression.

Ideal profile

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified
  • 4+ years experience in an accounting role, ideally within a retail and/or eCommerce business 
  • Comfortable working with large volumes of data, with strong Excel skills to support this and ideally some knowledge of SQL and databases
  • High attention to detail and strong process management skills
  • A self starter who is enthusiastic about taking responsibility and ownership over elements of the month-end-process  
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and escalate issues
  • Hands-on, practical problem solving and process improvement skills
  • A strong communicator who is comfortable partnering cross functionally with non-Finance members of the business 

Nice to have

  • Experience of ERPs (Xero/ NetSuite)
  • Knowledge of SQL
  • Knowledge of Looker
