Q&A: What colour suit should I wear?

Q&A: What colour suit should I wear?

"Clients wonder about this all the time, which I get: it can be tricky to figure out whether the same suit you normally wear to weddings would work at a job interview, for example," says Thread stylist Alice Watt. "And when my flatmate—who's never expressed any interest or curiosity about style—asked me recently, I thought this might be worth addressing.

"The short answer is that navy always works, whether you're going to a job interview, a wedding or (hopefully not) a funeral. A navy suit is easy to dress up for, say, a job interview—add a crisp white shirt, a pocket square and polished leather shoes—but you can also make a navy suit less formal for a casual wedding by wearing it with a chambray shirt and brogues or even minimal trainers."

That said, if you want or need to have a few suits, there are certain colours that work particularly well for certain occasions. Below, Alice shares the answers in a choose-your-own-adventure-style guide.
