Our favourite M&S Originals pieces from our exclusive partnership

Our favourite M&S Originals pieces from our exclusive partnership

A pioneer of the British high-street, M&S has mastered the art of reinvention. Its latest evolution comes in the form of M&S Originals – a collection that dips into the archives, reworks popular pieces, and redesigns them using the most responsible methods possible. Essentially, it’s all about looking backwards to move forward.

Largely inspired by British resort style of decades past, this feel-good summer collection features shirts, knits, jersey, as well as some great suiting all creating a soft retro-inspired feel, perfect for sunnier days ahead.

Interested? Well, fortunately for you (and us), we’ve launched its latest assortment onsite before anyone else. But that’s not our only claim – our very own Director of Business Development Terry Betts, a man of enviable style, features in the campaign's imagery. And to celebrate, we asked stylist Toby Standing to select his favourite pieces from the latest assortment – a hard job, but someone had to do it.

The Allerton Textured Linen Suit

A good bit of tailoring always comes in strong during the summer months – what with all the formal occasions you’re likely attending. But what the warmer weather does call for, is some attention to material and something with a more laid-back feel. Cue the linen suit – “this one nails it in terms of fabrication, fit, and style,” Toby says. Plus, it works just as successfully as separates too, so it’s got the versatility vote too.

The Gaddings Resort Collar Jumper

Knitwear in the summer is an essential part of your wardrobe, believe it or not. Crisp evenings, windier days, and the sheer refusal to wear a jacket spring to mind as just three occasions where a good jumper is sartorially perfect. This one has a slouchier fit, a great texture, and a polo style collar which not only makes it feel a little less formal, it also means it’s easy to layer on top of things too.

The Beckett Horizontal Stripe Rugby

There’s always something innately summer-y about a rugby shirt, Toby says “it’s a great choice if you lean more casual with your style and the cotton fabrication means it’s easy to wear all summer long.” Combine this with the punchy, vibrant stripes this one possesses and you’re onto a real winner.

The Holroyd Canvas Tote Bag

Photographed: M&S Originals Cotton Rich Tote Bag (£19.50)

“Do I need any more tote bags? No. Am I going to get this one? Yes,” Toby says. A tote bag always reigns supreme in men’s style, so it’s important you get yourself a good one. This has lots of internal storage (great for ensuring your tote doesn’t become a handkerchief on a stick type bag), plus the muted colour is easy to pair with pretty much anything – so that you don’t need a different tote bag for everyday of the week.

The Roundhay Cable Sleeveless Jumper

We talk about sweater vests a lot here at Thread – after all, they’re incredibly versatile, easy to style, and look good on everyone. Pretty much every brand is doing them, so to help you in your search, we’d recommend going for this one. It’s a classic interpretation in a really neutral knit, sure to suit any aesthetic.
