Five brands that are nailing swimwear

Five brands that are nailing swimwear

We’re going to state the obvious here: you spend a decent chunk of your time wearing swimwear while submerged in water – that is, if you’re doing summer right. So, you might ask yourself, why spend too much time fussing about what you’re wearing if it isn’t even seen that much? That would be because you spend the other portion of your day lounging under a sunny spotlight. And trust us: you’ll want to look your best then.

Luckily, our stylists are privy to the brands that do the whole swim thing well – both the established and up-and-coming ones. And they've help us rounded up some favourites; all you have to do is find the one that’s best for your summer vibe. Oh, and don’t forget some sunscreen while you’re at it.

Apres

Photographed: Apres Listra Shorts (£40)

If you’re swimming in the ocean, shouldn’t you do your part for it? That’s the question Apres is asking of its customers. Its goal is to ensure its collection is made exclusively from recycled or organic materials that contribute approximately 70% fewer carbon emissions than their virgin counterparts, or cause no damage to the environment. And not only is this brand sustainable, it also creates the kind of fun, punchy swim shorts that encapsulate all the vibes you want come summer.

Don’t miss: the candy-coloured assortment of shorts in its signature shorter length.

Orlebar Brown

What better endorsement could Orlebar Brown dream of than its 007 partnership with the James Bond films? The British brand brings a tailored design to swim shorts, which means that they’re smart enough to wear both in the water, and for a drink (shaken, not stirred) in the bar post-swim. In fact, it would rather think of itself as a short you can swim in, instead of a swim short – thank you very much.

Don’t miss: Patterns – they are kind of its thing if you couldn’t tell. But if those aren’t for you, its solid swim shorts are, well, a solid choice too.

FRESCOBOL CARIOCA

No place captures balmy summer vibes quite like Rio De Janeiro, the city that serves as the inspiration for this assortment. And swim shorts bottle up the unique ethos of Rio – think cultural diversity, mosaic pavements, and avant garde design movements. The brand offers a mix of cuts, lengths, patterns, and colours, so you’ll have no issue finding a pair of shorts that will work for you in or out of the water.

Don’t miss: Kaleidoscope prints more dizzying than your jet lag (good thing some rest in the sun will sort that out).

Polo Ralph Lauren

Ralph is the king of making everything he touches look like an Americana dream, and his swim assortment is no exception. Except large-scale tropical prints, preppy stripes, and saturated hues – we challenge you not to find a style you like in this assortment. The quality is also high, so you’ll take more than a few stylish dips in these.

Don’t miss: shorts marked with the brand’s signature polo player motif. Bonus points if it features its iconic bear print too.

Jack and Jones

Photographed: Jack & Jones Bali AKM Swim Shorts (£15)

Jack & Jones may have been born in the denim heyday of the early '90s, but its swim shorts perfectly capture the same good-vibes philosophy of its jeans. And as an added bonus, many of them are made from recycled and quick-dry fabrics, so you can get to the beach bar faster. And luckily, the shorts look really good with a short-sleeved shirt or tee.

Don’t miss: stylish, well-made swim shorts that don’t tend to jump on the latest trends – these are meant to be in your wardrobe for summers (and holidays) to come.
